What your friends see
While a song plays, your profile shows a "Listening to Statusong" card with the song, the artist, a progress bar and the current lyric line. When the song moves to the next line, the card moves with it.
It uses Discord’s own Rich Presence, the same feature games use to show what you are playing, so there is nothing hacky about it.
How it works with Spotify
Statusong runs on your Windows PC and reads the song that is playing from Windows’ media controls. That means it works with the normal Spotify desktop app and you never log in to Spotify or hand over a key.
It then looks up time-synced lyrics for that exact song from the community-run LRCLIB database, works out which line is playing at this second, and sends that line to Discord.
Set it up in a minute
- Download and install Statusong, then open it.
- Play a song in Spotify. The lyrics appear in the app straight away, for free.
- Unlock Pro (one payment of $7) to put them on Discord, and keep the Discord desktop app open.
- Allow Discord when Statusong asks. Your profile now shows the live lyric.
Free and Pro
Reading the live lyrics inside the Statusong window is free. Pro adds the Discord profile, word-by-word glow, 19 word effects, a lyrics-only view and animated backgrounds.
Questions
Do I need Spotify Premium?
No. Statusong reads what is playing on your PC, so it works the same with a free Spotify account.
Does it work on Mac or phone?
Not yet. Statusong is a Windows 10 and 11 app.
What if a song has no synced lyrics?
Then there is no line to show, so the card shows the song instead. Most popular songs are covered.
